Environmental Concern Inc. (EC) is a  public, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, located in St. Michaels, Maryland.

Mission:  EC is committed to improving water quality and creating, restoring and conserving wetlands, living shorelines and other natural habitats through education and outreach, propagation of native plant species and professional design and installation.

 

Restoration

The Restoration Division at EC specializes in the creation and enhancement of freshwater wetlands and tidal salt marshes. Our staff offers decades of experience restoring and constructing wetlands to improve water quality, manage stormwater, enhance habitat and stabilize shoreline erosion.

Nursery

EC maintains the nation's first wholesale native plant nursery, established in 1972. Currently, we offer over 120 wetland and upland native plants species. In addition to operating as a wholesale nursery, EC's nursery is an integral part of our education and restoration endeavors.

Outreach & Education

Our Educators work to improve the understanding and appreciation of wetlands and their importance to improving water quality and natural habitat. Since 1985, EC has offered professional training as well as community workshops and outreach initiatives.

Environmental Concern (EC) is inviting students and professionals new to the field of wetland science, as well as those in need of a refresher, to attend a 5-day (40-hour) Basic Wetland Delineation Course. This course meets the requirements for basic wetland delineation training specified by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The 1987 Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual and Regional Supplement will be used during the training. The course covers the Clean Water Act Section 404 regulations, updated regulation changes, and individual wetland parameters including vegetation, soils, and hydrology. Instructors from EC will lead participants through wetland delineation field procedures, including the completion of the Regional Supplement Data Forms. The course is divided into 16 hours of in-class time and 24 hours of in-person field experience.

Instructor Sean Sipple is a senior Environmental Scientist with Coastal Resources, Inc. He is a Professional Wetland Scientist with over 21 years of experience in the field. Sean is a Certified Ecologist, VA Professional Wetland Delineator and a Certified Taxonomist for Benthic Macroinvertebrates.
